Yay Jhonen Vasquez!!

Just a series of school-boredom-mindless-drawings from my comics shoved together.
Gradations with a normal pen suck ass....

Thanks a lot for the compliments! It's fun to do things like this- playing around with and imitating one of your favorite artists' style. I mean it's classified as "fanart" because these are not my characters, not my positions; and so I don't give myself a whole lot of credit for it or have a lot of pride in it. A copy machine could do just as good, if not better, than I did here.

But the majority of successful cartoonists and animators, and even just artists in general, started out drawing other people's stuff. One of the best ways to learn is through imitation. Not plagiarism. Not copying a comic and saying it's mine. But studying your predecessors' work and trying it for yourself, until you become confident enough to create your own characters, positions, and personas.

It's also an escape of sorts from frustrating, mundane still life studies and fun because I like the characters, the story, and Jhonen himself.

So yay. And again, thanks for the support. It's very much appreciated :-)

I fully understand exactly what you mean. Not just cartoonist do such things... I constantly find artists on here whom I admire their works tons... and so I study their pieces and make a work in the style of. That way I can get a good grasp on how they do some of the things they do. Go about making the things they make. And... then I can slowly impliment their styles or techniques into my own artwork, and make it no longer in their style, but in mine. That's what I'm doing now actually... some of the new pieces I submitted (my new ID and etc) are in the styles of some tutorials I downloaded. And then I hope to start branching off from there.
So you, definately keep of the good work, and when I see your comic on the shelf one day, I'll definately be purchasing it.
